  • Limited Edition Slipcase + This Is Cinmatographe: A Journal of American Cinema – Fall 2025. Limited to500 units. (Sold Out)

Taking its name from the Lumire Brothers invention of the same name, Cinmatographe is a new sub-label from Vinegar Syndrome that seeks to fill gaps in the canon of American cinema. Offering a mix of auteur driven studio films produced during the New Hollywood era of the late 1960s and 70s all the way through the indie boom of the 1980s and 90s, Cinmatographe will explore the wide breadth of American moviemaking, spanning numerous genres and scales of production. Curated and produced by Vinegar Syndrome’s Justin LaLiberty, each limited edition release will be housed in a specially designed, cloth-bound, media book with embossed foil titles and custom molded disc trays accompanied by a slipcase featuring newly commissioned art and an individually numbered J-card.

Bradford Big Brad Whitewood Sr. (Christopher Walken, King of New York) is the leader of a rural Pennsylvania gang of career criminals and his son, Bradford Little Brad Whitewood Jr. (Sean Penn, State of Grace), is an unemployed teenager who decides he wants a taste of his fathers flashy lifestyle and the power that comes with it. Embarking on a budding life of crime with his brother Tommy (played by Sean Penns real life brother Chris Penn, True Romance), Little Brad gets arrested, sparking a tense showdown between father and son, and their family and friends who get caught in the middle.

Based on the real life Pennsylvania gang run by Bruce Johnston, from a script by Nicholas Kazan (Patty Hearst), At Close Range marks the sophomore feature for acclaimed American genre filmmaker James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross; After Dark, My Sweet). Featuring an eclectic ensemble cast that puts the leads opposite Mary Stuart Masterson (Fried Green Tomatoes), Crispin Glover (Rivers Edge), Tracey Walter (Repo Man), David Strathairn (Matewan), and Kiefer Sutherland (Stand By Me) with striking night time cinematography by regularly Foley collaborator Juan Ruiz Ancha (Glengarry Glen Ross, The Corruptor), Foleys film is one of the great American crime films of the 1980s. Cinmatographe is proud to present the world 4K UHD debut of James Foleys masterclass in true crime drama in a brand new restoration from its original camera negative.
